Fellow Trail Riders,
The early warmer weather in February inspired a number of riders to dust off their machines and hit the trails in Dubuque and Rifle, among other destinations. The rest of us have been “thinking about it”. So while you contemplate your next ride, please REMEMBER that CBTRA needs you! We need you to re-new your membership to help us keep up the good things we do for the sport from trail clearing, maintenance, and PR on the trails to lobbying for access.
In order to maintain and keep trails open on Forest Service land, we local riders need to step up and provide a Trail Ambassador Patrol Program. This year we are looking for 20 volunteers to be trail ambassadors. If you are going to ride the Basalt trails or the Triangle peak trails anyway, why not help the single track riding community and be an ambassador while you ride? Basically, you are there to provide info on the trail system and remind riders of the need to remain on the established trails. This not a law enforcement position, its purpose is to provide guidance and offer aid if needed. Trail Ambassador Program information will be available on the CBTRA website (CBTRA.org).
We also need you to help CBTRA by recruiting your riding friends to join the organization. As a group we have strength. It takes an active membership to maintain and expand our trail network. If we act only as individuals, the conservation community could completely eliminate our sport.
CBTRA’S current IRS status is that of a non tax deductible non profit corporation. In other words you cannot deduct your membership fees on your annual taxes as charitable giving. To change our IRS status to a 501C 3 takes funds we do not have. Our goal is to raise $ 900.00 this year. If 30 members contribute the cost would be $30. If 50 members help out the cost drops to $18. If we could reach 100 riders willing to pledge $9.00, the price of a quart of oil...!! You get the picture. So please talk to your riding buddies, we need your help! Join or renew here
In other news, the Basalt to Gypsum EA (Environmental Analysis) for the Green Gate /Middle Fork Trail is in final draft review. It will presented to WRNF Supervisor Scott Fitzwilliams this April. We hope to have a determination by the end of April.
Keep in mind your 2016 OHV registration stickers will come due soon. The easiest way to renew is on line at http://cpw.state.co.us/.
This April we are planning a membership recruiting evening at the Roaring Fork Beer Company on Dolores Way in Carbondale, time and Date to be announced. Look forward to seeing you and all of your riding friends there!
